With the passing of Ohio House Bill 523 in 2016, residents in the Buckeye State have the excellent opportunity to choose medical marijuana for treatment of their qualifying conditions. The Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (OMMCP) has established a simple application process for eligible patients to register for access to the Ohio medical marijuana market.

The Ohio Medical Marijuana Application Process

How To Get A Medical Marijuana Card In Ohio

First, schedule an appointment with a physician certified by the OMMCP. You can find an up-to-date list of qualified doctors here.

The physician’s office will verify your eligibility by requiring a valid government ID, proof of residency, and requesting a copy of your medical records indicating a qualifying condition. Patients under the age of 18 must have a qualified caregiver 21 years or older.

During the appointment, your doctor can answer any questions you may have about medical marijuana therapies and your qualifying condition(s). Many qualified physicians offer convenient telehealth appointments.

After the appointment, your doctor will register their recommendation for you with OMMCP Patient Registry and create a patient profile. You will then receive an email with a link and instructions on how to complete your application and pay the registration fee online.

The annual cost of Ohio’s medical marijuana registration is $50 for patients and $25 for caregivers. Patients with indigent or veteran status can find information about reduced fees here. Recommendations and registration are valid for one year.
